What HAVEN't I been up to.

I'm putting together a piece with Chicago Children's theater called The Houdini Box, based on the book of the same title. It's a great opportunity to work with Blair Thomas and Mark Messing.

Immediately after that I'll be remounting a Becket show that will go up at the Steppenwolf garage space. That happens late this month.

I've been developing a new piece for Sketchbook X. It's going well. Molly and I went on a road trip to Ohio and loaded a truck up with post industrial plastic objects. My mind was blown by the whole trip. I knew there was a lot of extra stuff being made and thrown away. But seeing such a large amount of it, under 7 acres of roof, was boggling. Steve Shew should be up for some kind of lifetime achievement award considering he's pretty much saving the world.

My show, Magical Exploding Boy, has been selected for the New York Fringe Festival. In August, I'll pack up my little bag of props, and head to the Big Apple. It will take some fundraising, but I think I can pull it off with relative ease. And I'm grateful for the opportunity to develop the show and develop my skills in the art of Clown. I'd like to re-conceptualize the show, with a new costume, new props, and a new look. I don't know if it needs that, or I just get bored easy. Either reason is fine.

I went to Paper Machete again today. It's a living magazine. It's a great show. Except when people try to do "comedy". But luckily that was only one guy, from LA. It's inspired me to try and write. Maybe. A little.

I've been getting more auditions lately. For theater, movies, and commercials. Even though theater auditions stress me out a bit. It's nice to have opportunities in the future.

In non-theater related news:

I continue to study Aikido, intensely. I'm progressing steadily and beginning to understand new powerful things about the universe. It's almost all I think about.

I miss having an old motorcycle to work on. Although I did help a friend remove his carburetor. I actually saw my old bike parked on Ashland today. It was like seeing a missing child of mine. If I ever get any money, I will probably try to find it and buy it back so that I can fully restore it. I want a vintage bike to fix up sooooooooo bad.
